- IMM (MASTICATORY MUSCLE MYOSITIS) - POLLOCK – Dog, Male, Age: 3, Undetermined Breed -

Pollock had a diagnosis of MMM (Masticatory Muscle Myositis) since he was a few months old and took regular corticosteroids and almost uninterruptedly – presented with recurrences whenever they tried to remove completely the administration of drugs.
This autoimmune disease is characterized by inflammation of the muscles responsible for chewing, the main symptoms: swelling of the jaw muscles, decrease of saliva and pain and inability to open the mouth.
According to Veterinary Medicine Allopathic or Western Medicine, treatment is through the administration of corticosteroids, with decreasing doses, lasting up to 4-6 months, and in the case that there is already an extensive contraction of the jaw muscles, you have to perform manual opening of the mouth of the animal under anesthesia.
Simple Acupuncture was made of selected points in treatment sessions lasting about 20 minutes.
There was 6 sessions each week, followed by 2 sessions with a fortnightly basis, then became one session spent 3 weeks, again became one session spent 2 weeks, followed by 1 session spent 2 weeks since the previous, later became one session past 4 weeks, and then made up 2 sessions each week, plus 1 session after 15 days and 1 last session spent 5 weeks since the last.
In total 16 sessions were made at an interval of 7 months.

During the time lasted Acupuncture treatment Pollock was also doing a Homeopathic Veterinary Medical treatment provided by Dr. Vanessa Carvalho.
Upon initiation of treatment by acupuncture the dose of corticosteroids was reduced to half that the animal was taken.
After the 4th session of Acupuncture and 1 month after starting Acupuncture treatment, Pollock showed an onset of difficulty in opening his mouth and had to increase the dose of drugs that took over 2 weeks, after which it decreased again and completely stopped after other 2 weeks.
After the 7th session of Acupuncture, almost 3 months after the start of treatment by acupuncture, and after being one month without taking corticosteroids, Pollock had further slight relapse and had to be prescribed drug intake during 15 days again after the which has further reduction of the dose taken until corticosteroids have been completely removed again after another 15 days.
Until the end of treatment, and at least 2 years after the last crisis, Pollock hadn’t had any clinical manifestation of this disease again, and always without having to resort of taking any drug or medication.
