CLINICAL CASES

- ATOPIC DERMATITIS - MIMI – Dog, Female, Age: 9 years, Breed: Undetermined -

Mimi was diagnosed with Atopic Dermatitis in a Veterinary Clinic and in the 1st session of Acupuncture she presented with pruritus/itching, had erythematous skin/reddish, seborrhea/dandruff general, had no alopecia/hair loss and had a piodermatite/skin infection not too exaggerated located in the armpits and groin, chest in the most ventral and base of the tail with papules and "cones".
Mimi ate a diet hypoallergenic and took baths in 5-5 days with a shampoo also hypoallergenic.
Acupuncture was performed in selected points during treatment sessions lasting about 20 minutes.
There was one weekly session for 2 weeks, then made up to five sessions spaced two weeks, followed by one session after 3 weeks from the previous and finally two sessions to once every month.
In total 10 sections were made within 5 months.

After two sessions could see an improvement in the general state of the animal's skin with redness reduced, with much less seborrhea, without papules and less "cones", and Mimi had much less itchy, except at the base of the tail still with erythematous skin.
After the time of other 2 sessions Mimi had a decrease of pyoderma, with no new "injury".
She started to have a bath every other week and withdrew the hypoallergenic diet.
At that time Mimi worsened somewhat of pyoderma, leaving more zones "cones" and papules, although the itching remained low and remained much less reddish skin with little seborrhoea.
During the time we did the other 3 sessions Mimi was getting a little itchy and the skin condition normalized increasingly less reddish, with less dandruff with less "cones" and without papules.
In the following sessions and until the end of treatment Mimi’s skin was normalized, without seborrhea and without piodermatite and without itching and held like so for at least another 6 months.
